The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2% - a stable emulsion of next-generation forms of retinoid. This formulation combines two forms of next-generation retinoid actives in a combined concentration of 2% by weight. These two actives are: - Solubilized Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate is a highly-advanced form of retinoid which is, in fact, a non-prescription ester of all-trans direct retinoic acid that offers a multi-fold better effect against signs of ageing than retinol, retinyl palmitate and nearly all other forms of non-prescription retinoid; - A sustained-delivery form of pure retinol in a protective capsule system which supports both the delivery and the effect of Solubilized Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate. Both forms of retinoid used avoid the irritation associated with retinoid (including retinol) use while delivering better visible results against signs of ageing. Good, but not as good as the retinol in squalene.
This seems to be working okay and I haven't suffered any problems with my skin, but I've given it 4 stars instead of 5 because I don't find it as convenient to use as the retinol in squalene. I've found that this needs to be applied separately before my night-time moisturiser, whereas I just added a few drops of the retinol in squalene to my moisturiser, mixed them together and then applied them both at the same time.

Love this product
This is my go-to retinol after having tried others in the same price bracket- there may be better options out there but most cost so much I’m unwilling to risk purchasing them in case I have a reaction and can’t use them. This is affordable, pleasant to use with a nice texture and must give some results because I notice a difference in my skin appearance and texture when I haven’t used it for a while.

A really great beginners retinol!
I’ve hit my 20s and every beauty site has told me that it’s time to incorporate retinol to fight wrinkles before they’ve even happened. So I turned to the ordinary not really knowing how to start, and it was the best decision! This retinol is super gentle whilst also still delivering results! I’ve had no reactions or flare ups or major purging from a month of use once a night. You get an instant glow as soon as you put it on and I love it! Can’t wait to graduate to a stronger one from the same brand once I’ve built my tolerance.

Excellent for sensitive skin or first time Retinol users.
My skin has never taken to any Retinoids. This has been excellent, both for the results and total lack of skin reaction. Highly recommend for sensitive skin or first time user’s of any Retinoids. I always try to have a bottle of this in my beauty drawer. I try to use it as often as possible to keep the fine lines and pigmentation at bay. Absorbs into the skin quickly, no pain, no fuss and no nasty smells.
Use this at night and don’t forget to use a high spf during the day.

I've never used this brand or retinol but now wish I'd started years ago. I was nervous to use as my skin is prone to breakouts but after a month of use my skin is dramatically smoother.
Was sceptical but this works!

Personally, I wouldn't recommend using this on your stretch marks as you won't gain much benefit, however using Rose Hip Oil/Rose Hip Seed Oil on stretchmarks (new and old) has been proven to reduce and improve the appearance of them.

The Ordinary Advanced Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion 30ml shoud never be used around the eye area as it contains retinoids.
You should never put retinoids/ retinol near the eyes as this is a concentrated form of vitamin c. Vitamin c is a natural and potent exfoliant and the skin around your eyes is very delicate and thin.

Retinol contains a lower concentration than retinoid, if you have sensitive skin, I would recommend a retinoid as it can be less irritating.

Does this help with facial scarring e.g. acne scars?

The Ordinary Advanced Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion is really recommended for anti aging. However, it has additional benefits, when spread on the skin, retinoids can unclog pores, allowing other medicated creams and gels to work better. They also reduce acne outbreaks by preventing dead cells from clogging pores. Retinoid helps with cell renewal which can reduce the visibility of scars.
When using a retinoid, we always recommend applying in the evening, and introduce gradually 3 times a week. Always use an SPF during the day.
