Product Description

This water-free solution contains a 5% concentration of an advanced retinoid active complex called Granactive Retinoid that has been shown to offer better results against multiple signs of ageing than retinol without any of the irritation and drawbacks common with retinol.

Granactive Retinoid, an active technology from Grant Industries, is a solubilized system of Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, a highly-advanced form of retinoid which is, in fact, a non-prescription ester of all-trans direct retinoic acid that offers a multi-fold better effect against signs of ageing than retinol, retinyl palmitate and nearly all other forms of non-prescription retinoid.

Water-free, alcohol-free, silicone-free, nut-free, vegan, gluten-free, soy-free.

Directions

Apply a small amount to face in the PM as part of your skincare regimen, after water serums but before heavier treatments. Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected solar exposure. Store in a cool, dry place.

Ingredients

Squalane, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Bisabolol, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Used on arms not face Used this on my arms not my face to even out texture and discolouration. Saw some improvement. Was a bit greasy though

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok It's an ok product, I'm not using it anymore as I don't feel like this is the best option available, but it's still a great way to start your retinoid journey. For a beginner I feel like this is a good gentle option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best value retinol out there To be honest how can you tell it’s really working other than only doing half your face but it feels great, I think my skin does look better and for the price it’s very worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smoother skin & tighter pores in 1 week! I can’t believe how amazing this product is. It’s my 1st time using The Ordinary products, but I’m impressed at the low prices you pay for high quality ingredients. I have noticed very fine shedding of skin cells on my pillow case every morning, but I’m just happy that it’s working. Can’t wait to see how my skin transforms in 1year!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% Great texture and absorbs very quickly leaving a slight sheen, feels like it is soaking into the skin. Great produce for the price and on par with other retinoids Ive used in the past.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good I think it’s a bit too early to say how effective this is as others have commented that it takes time to see visible results. It sinks into skin well and hasn’t irritated my skin like retinols have in the past. I will need to give it 4-6 weeks to know for sure but happy with product so far

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Helps with Keratosis pilaris I bought this for my partner as he has keratosis pilaris ('chicken skin') on his arms and I'd read retinol can help. This has worked a treat and helps take the edge off for him so he is more comfortable.

I currently started using 0.5 then I’m on 1% ! What is the difference from retinol to granative Retinol ? Also is this stuff good for  Stretchmarks ? If so should I start on the lowest % on a new part of the body ? Thank you

Asked by: Anonymous
The difference between Retinol and granative Retinol is that the granative is oil based and has very little or no irritation on skin compared to the Retinol. It can be used on stretch marks but i have no evidence that it makes a huge difference... you may be better off just using any oils like bio oil which has some good evidence that it helps.

My skin is combination type. I used it nightly and noticed my skin get drier in the cheek and less oily in the T-zone in the morning. Is this reaction normal? How can I reduce the dryness while using it?

Hi, Retinol is a weaker, over the counter version of tretinoin, a prescription vitamin A derivative that is highly effective in reversing sun damage and signs of aging. Vitamin A decreases fine lines, evens skin color, improves texture, tightens pores, and stimulates blood flow and collagen production. However this is a powerful product that can have some side effects, for example; a brief sensation of warmth or stinging immediately after applying, peeling, excessive dry skin, burning, redness and irritation. It may also may react with skin products, for example product that contain benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, acids (not including Hylaronic acid) and vitamin c can react to retinol. What we would suggest is lowering your dose of retinol to 3 - 4 times weekly at night until your skin has built up a tolerance to it and using The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil at night as it's full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that are known to correct dark spots and hydrate dry, itchy skin, all while reducing scars and fine lines. Thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.

Can I use this around eyes area?

Asked by: Chi Wai
Hello, I would recommend not to use The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane around the eye contour as this could irritate your eyes, I would recommend to use a anti wrinkle eye cream. Happy shopping! Thanks, Yasmin - Beauty Expert

How would the 5% differ to the 2% on the skin? Is it more likely to cause irritation to sensitive skin?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi, Thank you for your question! If you have not used a high strength Retinoid product before, it is recommended to start your routine with the Retinol 0.2% in Squalane and then go to a higher strength once your skin has built up an intolerance. Here is a link to the product: https://www.feelunique.com/p/The-Ordinary-Retinol-02-in-Squalane-30ml The Granactive Retinoids are highly advanced systems for the active ingredient hydroxypinacolone retinoate (HPR), which is known as a retinoic acid ester. Retinoic Acid is an active form of Vitamin A which unlike Retinol causes little to no irritation. Thanks, Billie - Senior Beauty Expert
