Making a Rare Impact on World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day is just around the corner, and this year it’s focusing on everyone. Set every year by the World Foundation of Mental Health, they believe that mental wealth is a universal right. We couldn’t agree more, neither could Rare Beauty who are also fighting for this cause. Founded by Selena Gomez, the brand has put mental health at the top of their agenda through their every action, and aims to raise over $100 million in the next 10 years to expand access to mental health services and education for young people around the world.

While 1% of every sale already goes to their Rare Impact Fund, this year they’re going one step further. On the 10th October, Sephora is donating 100% of Rare Beauty’s sales to the fund, which aims to reduce the stigma associated with mental health, address the loneliness epidemic and give people access to the resources they need to support their mental health. Want to know more about the incredible work that goes into this initiative? Then read on.

Why is Rare Beauty hoping to make a Rare Impact

Beauty lovers who’ve followed Rare Beauty since day dot will know just how important equality is to the brand - and mental health awareness is no exception. For Selena Gomez, “mental health is personal for me. Figuring out how to manage my own mental health hasn't always been easy, but it’s something I am constantly working on and I hope I can help others work on, too.” Something we at Sephora are also very passionate about, we’re so proud to partner with Rare Beauty for this *extra* special day.

But why? According to the World Health Organization, around 20% of the world’s children and adolescents struggle with their mental health - with 970 million people living with a mental health disorder. Now more than ever, money raised by initiatives like Rare Impact can help those who need it; and by that, we mean all of us.

That’s the why, but what about the how? And where does your money to the Rare Impact Fund go? Being careful not to throw your money into the void, this initiative works with more localised charities, so real impact can be felt on a human scale - going directly to those who need it. This year, Rare Impact is working alongside UK organisations Black Minds Matter and Place2Be - all with the hope of making their efforts felt as universally as possible.

Who are Black Minds Matter?

Black Minds Matter UK is a charity that connects Black individuals and families to free mental health services with an accredited collective of Black therapists. They work tirelessly to remove the stigma and redefine mental health experiences for Black individuals with culturally relevant support.

And what about Place2Be?

Place2Be is a children and young people’s mental health charity that has been working with U.K. schools for almost 30 years. They provide invaluable mental health support to pupils, families and staff through counselling, expert training sessions and professional qualifications.

Make YOUR Rare Impact

In honour of World Mental Health Day, on the 10th October, Sephora will be donating 100% of sales of Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez to the Rare Impact Fund, increasing access to mental health services and education for young people around the world.

So set your alarms! There’s no better day to make your Rare Impact than then.
